West Hartford Sciatica Relief

Sciatica is a Secondary Condition, which you may know as a symptom that some folks suffer with that is characterized by a deep pain in the buttocks that can travel down the back of the leg and in some cases reaching the toes. Sciatica is also associated with weakness in the leg and unremitting pain with numbness, pins and needles. A pain in the butt is an understatement.

As a Structural Chiropractor our unique focus is different than conventional chiropractors or other health care providers, so a good place to start is to define conventional chiropractic.

Conventional chiropractors are good folks and are good at their focus of relieving pain, increasing movement and decreasing muscle spasm. Before I get into the significant difference between a conventional chiropractor and a Structural Corrective Chiropractor, you need to know a few Myths and Facts.

As a Structural Chiropractor we DO NOT use aggressive spinal manipulations, we DO NOT have you come in forever and we Do Not claim to treat everything. We also do not offer physical therapy services, we refer out to a PT, we prefer to focus on what we are excellent at, which is Structural Correction of the spine.

We look for a Structural Shift in the spine, this is a Primary Condition which is abnormal and leads to degeneration/damage of your spinal bones and discs. Just like normal blood pressure, there is a normal range for the spine - not perfect, no one has a perfect spine.

When you have a Structural Shift of the spine this can cause Secondary Conditions of low back pain and Sciatica. When your spine is shifted outside normal range this puts excessive pressure on your spinal bones, discs, ligaments, nerves and muscles. Just like a house with an unlevel foundation, soon everything sitting on the abnormal foundation will be affected, creaky floors, stuck doors, etc.

As a Structural Chiropractor (the only one in West Hartford) we look for tell tale indicators of an abnormal Structural shift. They are:
  1. Degenerated/damaged disc
  2. Degenerated/damaged spinal bones
  3. Muscle spasm/tension
  4. Nerve Impingement Syndrome
  5. Anterior head Syndrome (shifting of the head relative to your chest more than 1 inch)
If you have just one indicator, this means you have a abnormal structural shift, and the more indicators means the more severe your structural shift has become, which correlates with the severity of your Secondary Conditions (sciatica, low back pain).

Most folks of West Hartford, try and manage Sciatica by doing one or more of the more common approaches, such as:

  • OTC meds
  • massage
  • wait and see (never a good idea)
  • PT or conventional chiropractic
  • muscle relaxers
  • nerve blocks
  • surgeries (minor to major and usually requires a second surgery down the road)
  • Pain mgt. (narcotics) anti-depressants

What we do at Advanced Chiropractic...

My goal is to direct your spine to what's considered normal. By doing so, this will relieve pressure on the discs, which will subsequently will relieve pressure on the nerves, thus relieving your low back pain.

This is how correcting abnormal spinal structure will improve low back pain. Once we have the normal weight bearing curves in your low back - this takes the harsh forces of gravity and evenly distributes the forces through out the spine, which in turn relieves the pressure off the disc and nerves. This allows your low back pain to be relieved.

Our plan of care is based on what we find on the structural examination and is customized for each patient and their condition - this is not cookie cutter and will require certain complementary recommendations to enhance your care in our office.

Have a GREAT Day
