Screwed... Literally
I meet folks in West Hartford who are skeptical about conventional chiropractic care and I do not blame them.
We are NOT a conventional Chiropractic office, we focus on a branch of Chiropractic called Structural Correction. Here is the big difference between Conventional and Structural Chiropractic.
As
you know we DO not use aggressive manipulations, or ask you to "believe"
in chiropractic or claim to cure everything. And many like our
approach, they say it just makes sense and is reasonable.
The
picture above is that of an unfortunate patient (not at our office) that has under gone major back
surgery. Now, after seeing that picture, there is nothing in my office
that should scare, intimidate or even cause you to take pause.
What
I can say after my years of experience is this; "uncorrected spinal
structure will cause damage and degenerate spinal structures which for some will cause major
debilitating consequences".
We do Structural Chiropractic to correct abnormal structure from degenerating to such a point where this surgery was performed.
We
use two different instruments, a handheld Correcting instrument and
our Structural Corrective Table. Again, most conventional chiropractors
use their hands with a non-specifc general manipulations - which are
safe.
Our goal or focus is structural correction, with that in
mind we need to be specific and realize not every vertebra (back bone)
needs to be corrected. Our technique is similar to fine tuning of a grand piano vs using a sledge hammer to persuade a piece of concrete. Specific, gentle with a less is more mindset to patient care.
Detecting is vital, the correction is as
much a science and art. That is why we take Structural Films, most
conventional chiropractors DO NOT take films anymore. Again, the more specific we are the less force we need to use and results tend to speak for themselves.
Also
the hand held instrument delivers forces from mere (3-4) ounces to 40
pounds per square inch - very specific. Also the speed in which that
specific force is delivered resonates (beneficial) with the tissues of
the body, mainly your nervous system and ligaments.
And, I know
people are hesitant to go to a Conventional Chiropractor because of
unnecessary worry about aggressive manipulation - since you have
experienced Structural Chiropractic or now know about about our gentle
specific correction, when people ask about our office you can honestly
say we are gentle and specific - different than most conventional
chiropractors.
Who should be our patient?
Patients
who have periodic reoccurring symptoms, chronic patients, and those
who have been to other conventional chiropractors and/or physical
therapists, and have not experienced significant correction.
Many Secondary Conditions, such as; back pain, neck pain, sciatica, headaches and TMJ have been helped by correcting abnormal structure.
Plus, our technique gets results, in my not so humble opinion.
Have a GREAT Day!

A prospective patient called and asked, " Do You Really Have To Do An Exam" ?
Great question, since I get the wow - response when I let our patients know how long and exactly what our examination entails.
Our examination includes Structural Corrective Radiography's, taken in the standing position. This is important because it's best to visualize Structural Shifts while weight bearing or standing.
Laying down reduces these abnormal shifts or "hides" the true picture. The Structural Corrective Analysis, is the process we use to measure in degrees and millimeters the abnormal Structural Shift. (No one has a perfect spine, yet their is a normal range.)
For example if your skull is translated anterior in regards to your thorax more than an inch - this is abnormal. Or in simpler terms, if you have a goosed neck look more than an inch - this is abnormal.
Our Digital Structural Analysis, involves unique software that measures normal from abnormal from digital pictures. So, we get a good look of what you present with and then a better look at the inner frame work, your spine with the Structural Corrective Radiography's - basically looking at you from head to toe and inside and out.
Through I know, this helps get it right the first time.We follow up with a detailed functional exam, Structure and Function are related. If abnormal spinal structural shift is present, this can effect the function of your nerves, muscles and how well you move. So, we do look at your Range of Motion, Orthopedic and Neurological checks - which include more than 30 different checks. And of course our palpation exam, where we feel the areas effected; looking for muscle spasm, tenderness, heat or redness (as with inflammation).
To answer the question: Why is do the exam?
Because, the examination provides us with the vital information to tailor a specific Initial Phase of Care that fits your condition. We are not baking a cake, we are working with an individual and our plan must benefit the uniqueness of the individual.
We are not an assembly line type of practice that is so common today.Plus, our recommendations involve not only our practice, but what you need to do on your own... as well as what you must avoid to regain or enhance your health.
We plan for you what you need to do the other 23 hours of the day you are not in our office. But, all this begins with your consultation an our Structural Corrective Examination.
Have a GREAT Day!

I work with many Dentists in West Hartford. Some Dentists (not all) realize,
when it comes to TMD (Temporal Mandibular Disorder aka TMJ) that there
is a Primary Condition which they know is occurring in the neck.
These
Dentist call me in (Structural Chiropractor – a branch off of
chiropractic that is different from traditional chiropractor) to assist
in addressing the Primary Structural Condition in the spine.
This Primary Structural Condition is called, A.H.S or Anterior Head
Syndrome and has a primary role in TMD.
You see when the spine,
specifically the upper portion of your neck has abnormally shifted
anterior or forward more than an inch – this produces harsh forces on
the muscles of the neck and jaw. Your Jaw, has a very specific
alignment, just like your neck and when these joints are outside normal
range Secondary Conditions show their ugly head, such as TMD, pain,
headaches, grinding, poor sleep, poor posture, etc.
Common approaches for TMD are:
- pain medications
- muscle relaxers
- dental orthotic
- tens unit
- Dental surgery
What our solution entails, is correcting the abnormal positioning of
the spine back to with in normal range along with a dental orthotic if
the TMD is severe enough and if it is warranted from the Dentist.
You
see, the above common approaches only get to the surface pain and NOT
the underlying Primary Structural Condition.
Our combined care reduces
or eliminates AHS (Anterior Head Syndrome) which removes the harsh
forces off the muscles of the jaw and neck, then we work with your
nerves to help them regain normal information flow to the jaw joint –
the technical name for this is neuro-muscluar-structural correction or (I know a mouth full) structural correction to keep it simple.
This is why our approach is successful when many other treatments
have failed – we look to the Primary Condition, while others (which even
when they give temporary relief) only look to treating symptoms.
Something to think about....
Every time you open your mouth your neck muscle contract or tighten.
Think about that… every time you eat, talk or yawn your neck muscles
are active.
Now, if your spine is outside normal range each time your
mouth opens this adds harsh forces of pressure onto your jaw and neck
joints, resulting in pain, headaches, etc. Structural Chiropractic care
(our care) is a smart opportunity that should be at the top of your
list of considerations if you have TMD.
If results
matter than the technique matters
